The 'camera obscura' means 'dark chamber' in Latin. It is an optical device that has led to photography and a simple camera, The device consists of a box or room with a hole in one side. Light from a small scene passes through the hole and strikes a surface inside, where the image is reproduced, rotated 180 degrees (turned upside down), but with colors and perspective preserved. The image that is made is projected onto a back wall of the box or a paper attached to the back wall of the container, and that will be traced to be an accurate representation.
Here is a video of a man explaining what the 'camera obscura' is a how to make one, only using a cardboard box, light and a lens. He also explains who found out about this.
This image below shows how the reflection works and how it turns into an image.
our attempts and steps
In our photography class we tried to make our own camera obscura, here are the steps to make one:
Step 1
step 2
This is the stuff you need to start with, a cardboard tube, black duct tape, a pin and tracing paper, a cardboard lens and white tape.
Get the tracing paper and tape it down flat on one side of the cardboard tube.
step 3
step 4
Tape the smaller part of the cardboard tube down on top of the taped down tracing paper and make sure it is flat.
Make sure the smaller part of the cardboard tube is taped down with black duct tape.
Tape down the tin foil on top of the small piece of cardboard with celotape. Then get the pin and create a pinhole in the tin foil.
our result
We then went outside and looked through it while pointing the end upwards while looking through the empty side.
It created an upside-
down image through the pinhole shining onto the tracing paper.
The first one was inside through a window looking up at a building. It went very well because we could see the images clearly.
